PostgreSQL learning path

You’ve chosen the PostgreSQL integration. This is an excellent choice for database observability.

What you’re about to do is a hands-on learning path. You’ll configure Grafana Alloy to collect PostgreSQL metrics and logs, set up a monitoring user in your database, and get pre-built dashboards showing query performance, connection stats, replication health, and vacuum activity.

We’re starting at milestone 3 since you’ve already covered the “why” of integrations and database monitoring in this course. The journey picks up with selecting your platform and installing Grafana Alloy.

Each milestone below expands to show you exactly what to do. Work through them in order, as each milestone builds on the previous one. You’ll need administrative access to your PostgreSQL server to create the monitoring user.
