Initialize the Synthetic Monitoring plugin

Before you can create checks, you need to initialize the Synthetic Monitoring plugin. This one-time setup process configures the connection between the plugin and your Grafana Cloud account, automatically creating the required Prometheus and Loki data sources for storing metrics and logs from your checks.

The initialization process ensures that all check results are stored in your Grafana Cloud stack, where you can query them using familiar tools like Explore and build custom dashboards and alerts.

To initialize the Synthetic Monitoring plugin, complete the following steps:

1. On the Synthetic Monitoring home page, click Initialize the plugin.
2. Wait for the initialization process to complete. This typically takes a few seconds.
3. The plugin automatically configures the required Prometheus and Loki data sources for your account.

After initialization completes, the Synthetic Monitoring home page refreshes and displays options to create your first check. You’re now ready to start monitoring your endpoints.
